I was just reading through the manga, and I realised something. Yoshimura, no matter how kind he is, is deep down a bad person (I don’t know how to word that, correct me if I’m wrong). He left Eto in the 24th ward, an actual hellhole, where she could’ve easily been killed instead of leaving her with a nice ghoul family or an orphanage (a place she could easily blend into). There aren’t enough words to finish my small rant, but despite what people think, he’s not the best person.

I mostly agree, Nonny-Mouse. ❤

Personally, I wouldn’t exactly say Yoshimura is a bad person. I mean, I think a key theme of TG is that everyone is morally grey. Killers can be kind, defenders of humanity can be sadistic, and even the main protagonist (Kanek) and villain (Furuta) have the same goal in the end.

For Yoshimura…he helped Touka, Ayato, Yomo, Irimi, Koma, Kaneki. In a way, he saved many of them from their violence. That’s beautiful.

And without knowing who exactly Noroi was, I’m hesitant to say he left her in a hellhole without caring, because it’s honestly possible Noroi was his safest option. But.

That being said, once the initial danger was passed, Yoshimura didn’t try to take Eto back. Maybe he still feared for her safety if V returned; maybe he feel guilty over Ukina, etc. But as time wore on, he still risked himself to save many other self-destructive ghouls, yet never his daughter.

His passivity is the cause of Eto’s abandonment issues, which she herself says.

Yoshimua’s best intentions, if they even were his best, weren’t even close to enough for his daughter. And that’s super tragic.

I think maybe this is why he flat-out tells the investigators “I am cognizant that I am evil.” But then, if he knew, why didn’t he do anything?

Gah.

So this is a long-winded explanation about why, personally, I wouldn’t classify him as bad. But I also wouldn’t classify him as good either; he’s definitely a twist, if not an inversion, on the ‘wise old man mentor.’

He’s a sinner with good intentions, just like almost all the characters. 😥

AU where Ukina is still dead, but Eto was able to remain with and be raised by Kuzen and they just get to enjoy all the typical father and daughter things.

– Kuzen read to Eto every night before bed, spurring her love for literature.

– When she got her first novel accepted, Kuzen couldn’t stop bragging about her, and Eto loved the attention.

– Koma loved giving Eto piggyback rides when she was little. Now he likes to tease her that she’s still small enough, if she wants.

– Eto has, more than once, convinced Uta and Itori to help her prank Yomo until he begged for mercy.

– Ten-year-old Eto snuck into young Uta’s newly opened HySy, and told him she was going to marry him. Kuzen had to drag her out of the studio after Uta gave him a frantic phone call at 3 am.

– When she was a teenager, Eto once tried to seduce her human schoolmate who was a customer in Anteiku. That’s how Kuzen’s turned gray.

– Kuzen loves editing her books.

– When Eto was thirteen, Kuzen awakened one night to find her eating an entire carton of ice cream. When he asked her why, she replied “my uterus has come alive” and he freaked out even though all she meant was cramps.

– Kuzen definitely let Eto apply makeup to his face. It was’t uncommon for him to wake up to her having plastered on face paint during the night, either.

How Anteiku comforts SO who just had a nightmare

Kaneki Ken – He will ask if they want to return to sleep or talk. If they choose the former, he’ll hold them tight and assure them he’ll protect them. If the latter, he’ll brew coffee and listen intently.

Kirishima Touka – She’ll say well that’s it for sleep. She’ll brew coffee and talk and keep they awake as they dissect their dreams.

Fueguchi Hinami – She will hug the nightmare out of them.

Nishiki Nishio – He’ll massage his SO as they either talk about it or talk about something else.

Nishino Kimi – She’ll probably psychoanalyze the dream to give her partner more control.

Yoshimura – He’ll assure his SO he will never, ever let something bad happen and tug them closer.

Koma Enji – He’ll listen to their nightmare, then make up funny endings and stories to get their mind off the dream.

Irimi Kaya – Will use her kagune to shield her SO. Pile blankets atop them. Make sure they feel secure enough to return to the land of slumber.

Yomo Renji – He will wait to see their response. Do they want to talk? If so, he’ll watch them with his serious eyes so they know he’s paying attention. If they just want to forget, he’ll allow it for now, but inwardly he’d be very sad that they had a nightmare, because he wishes he could take it away.

Uta – He’ll work on getting his SO to forget. Perhaps some hanky-panky or tickling.

What does Yoshimura think of each of the Antreiku members? I always had a feeling Yoshimura is the kind of guy who silently judges you, but with love

Kaneki Ken – Likes him, though his attitude towards ghouls and eating people is sad at times, even though Yoshimura understands it. He has great hopes for his future.

Kirishima Touka – He adores Touka like she was his own daughter. Her tough attitude might aggravate others, but he knows where it comes from. He worries for her impulsiveness and ships her with Kaneki.

Kirishima Ayato – Misses the kid. Recognizes his angst. Wants him to come home.

Fueguchi Hinami – Concerned about how traumatized she must be. Wants to emphasize her kind spirit to keep her out of trouble.

Yomo Renji – Yomo is his secret keeper. He admires Yomo for turning his life around, yet not entirely working at Anteiku. He thinks Yomo has a soft heart, and he’s right.

Uta – Doesn’t trust him worth a damn, but he’s good for Renji.

Nishiki Nishio – Finally he gets to meet the infamous Nishiki. Concerned about his romance with Kimi and very invested in a happy ending.

Nishino Kimi – Very worried for her romance with Nishiki, but admires her devotion.

Irimi Kaya – his most dependable worker. He thinks she’s brilliant, harsh, and beautiful, like a winter morning. He ships her and Koma.

Koma Enji – his most entertaining worker, and a good friend. When are he and Irimi going to get together?

“Strike me down, and I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine,” Obi-Wan Yoshimura says to the reaper of death, Darth Arima. All around him, CCG forces gather. He can’t walk away from this. He will die in front of Anteiku…and Kaneki.

Arima’s IXA pierces Yoshimura’s kagune.

“NOOOOOOOOOO!” screams Kaneki, lunging forward into the hands of CCG.

“Did Yoshimura tell you about the One-Eyed King?” demands Darth Arima.

Kaneki clutches the cell door. His eyes are put out. He can’t see, and all they call him is 240. Why does this death god seek him out? “He told me you killed him!”

“No, I am the One-Eyed King.” Arima holds out his hand. “Join me, and we can better the world of humans and ghouls!”

Kaneki shakes his head. He can’t believe himself good enough. And so he falls, falls, falls…into his cell at Cochlea.

“So, you have a friend waiting for you at a cafe. Perhaps I shall target her next.” Darth Arima mocks.

“NO!” Kaneki unfurls his kagune. He and Arima fight madly as Bureau Emperor Tsuneyoshi cackles in the distance.

Finally Kaneki pierces Arima’s armor. Arima falls. His eyes stare up at Kaneki – or one does. His other is blank, as if he cannot see, as if he really is One-Eyed.

Kaneki hesitates. He won’t be like Arima.

“Good, good, let the hate flow through you. Kill him, my new apprentice!” Tsuneyoshi approaches.

Kaneki straightens. Compassion floods his veins. “No. I will oppose you with everything I have.”

“Well then.” Tsuneyoshi begins to transform into an enormous kakuja. He throws Kaneki to the ground.

Against his will, Kaneki screams. Tsuneyoshi is tearing him apart inside – “Arima! One-Eyed King! Help me!”

Arima lunges to his feet, throws himself before Tsuneyoshi. His father’s kakuja digs into his chest.

Suddenly, Tsuneyoshi collapses as a sword pierces his heart.

“I’m sorry,” says Furuta, cheerfully sticking another sword in his father, “did I miss something?”

“You…already have, my One-Eyed King.” Arima smiles at Kaneki as the light fades from his eyes.

– Yoshimura started shipping Touken from the moment Touka introduced Kaneki to him.

– The first time Nishiki met Yomo, he saw him dragging in another body he’d scavenged. He was immediately determined to gain the approval of this strong ghoul, which led to several embarrassing attempts at conversation. This ended when Touka randomly walked up to Yomo and was like “just fucking talk dude.”

– Yomo talked. For Touka’s sake. He was a bit leery of this violent ghoul who had attacked Touka and Kaneki. And who reminded him of his own youth.

– Anteiku held a small celebration for Hinami’s birthday that ended in a kagune wrestling contest between Hinami’s and Yomo’s. He let her win.

– Irimi once tried to teach Touka and Hinami about girl stuff. It was torture for all involved.

– Koma once held a “guy’s night” for Nishiki, Kaneki, and Yomo. Uta was not invited but showed up regardless. They spent most of their time doing obstacle courses Koma had invented for them. Yomo won, but Nishiki came in second, and he has never let anyone forget that.

– Irimi held a “girl’s night” at the same time. Touka, Hinami, and Kimi came, and Itori crashed, to all of their delight. Itori and Hinami had a brief pact to get Touka to admit her feelings for Kaneki. They were unsuccessful.

More Anteiku headcanons

– One evening, Uta and Itori showed up with a bottle of blood wine. He persuaded Nishiki and Touka to play a drinking game with him. When Yomo came into the cafe two hours later, he found two very giggly employees, an empty bottle, and Uta whistling innocently in a corner.

– It did not go well for Uta. Yoshimura had a stern conversation with him. Uta then whined to Itori about Yomo “tattling” on him. Itori then nicknamed Yomo “tattletale” for about a month.

– Touka swears she saw Irimi and Koma necking in the storage closet.

– She actually saw Nishiki and Kimi, dressed as Irimi and Koma to percolate this exact rumor.

– Kimi and Nishiki sometimes tutor Touka and Yoriko in science. This brings a smile to everyone’s faces.

– One time Hetare flew into the cafe because Hinami forgot to lock its cage. The entire morning consisted of an “all hands on deck” text message being sent out, everyone assuming doves were there, panic, relief once they found out it was only Hetare, and frantically trying to capture the bird.

– Nishiki threatened to replace it with a real dove, to which Irimi replied that she would skin him. Kimi added that she would help. Nishiki did not continue this line of thought.

Anteiku headcanons !!!!!

– They once had a dance night, provoked by Nishiki and Koma attempting to have a dance off on the counters one day.

– Yomo thought this was a terrible idea, but then Uta heard, got enthusiastic, and persuaded Itori to supply wine.

– Touka and Kaneki danced…very…closely… and Yomo noticed. For the next day, Kaneki was confused as to why Yomo kept glaring at him.

– Irimi and Koma sometimes leave together and come in together the next day. Nishiki once accused them of being a couple, which they promptly denied. Yoshimura, however, was not convinced, though he kept his chuckles to himself.

– One time Hinami found five stray kittens and insisted Anteiku look after them until they could find a proper home. This home turned out to be Yomo’s place.

– Touka is too short to dust the top shelves, and Nishiki always teases her about it. One time she poured iced coffee down his shirt. Kimi was there to pick up Nishiki. She was not sympathetic to Nishiki.

– Hinami once told Yomo he felt like her uncle. The rest of the day, no one could figure out why Yomo’s eyes were puffy and bloodshot.

– Koma once asked Uta if his tattoo was about Yomo. No one is allowed to speak of what happened next.
