Yes please.
Furuta comes home to find his s/o vomiting in their bathroom.
“Don’t tell me you’re pregnant,” he jokes, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her small shoulders. Her eggplant hair is an identical color to Sizes, though always kept in an elaborate side-braid.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you,” she replies tightly.
“Huh?”
His s/o whirls around. “I’m vomiting because – because I’m just a replacement for Rize to you, aren’t I?”
“Who? Are you sure you’re sane right now?” Furuta holds up his hands even as his heart races. He laughs nervously. She knows, she knows – he doesn’t know how but she fucking knows.
“You sicken me,” she tells him, tears in her eyes. “I’ve followed you around and around – you and your family. I knew the truth had to be bad – with ghouls leading the CCG – but rape? I thought it was too easy to make you fall for me – turns out the joke was on me, right? Because I’m your replacement for Rize.”
“I never raped anyone – I’m trying to stop my family!” he whispers. His eyes are wide. And he’s shriveling into himself.
“Oh, and forcing a ghoul to breed kakuhous is so much more moral, right? You’re a monster,” she shoots back.
“Aren’t all ghouls?” he asks flatly.
Her voice comes out soft, broken. “I didn’t think you were.”
“I’m the worst of all. Just wait until I tell you what I’ve done to Rize now,” he says impulsively. He slams the bathroom door shut, locking them in together. Kill me. Do it. If it’s already ruined, why not go down in flames?
Or force me to kill you. Because he really doesn’t want to hurt her, and that bothers him.
She holds up her hands. Her strong voice re-emerges. “One: stop trying to make me hate you, because I’m dangerously close to that right now. Two: Rize’s been freed and is recovering in the hands of Goat and Kaneki Ken. How else did you think I found out what she looked like?”
Furuta gapes at her.
“Guess you can’t attack them now.” She shrugs and slumps to the floor. “I don’t…I’ve always thought I knew the worst of you. I even learned about Rize a long time ago. And tried to save her, but today, when I finally succeeded, when I finally saw her…it just seems like a joke, Souta.”
Furuta’s mouth dries at her use of his secret name. The name he only told her recently.
“So you’ve been working with Goat this whole time?” Furuta isn’t sure if he admires or hates her.
“Yeah. I guess we played each other, hmm.” She glances up at him and extends her hand. His gloved fingers intertwine with hers as he sits besides her, still shocked.
“I had to free her, for her sake. And also for yours. I don’t want this on your conscience.”
“Joke’s on you, because I don’t have one.” He snorts.
“Then why are you sitting here with me?” She sniffles. “I…do you think I am sickened because I hate you? Do you think I betrayed you because I hate you? I did it all because I do love you, even if I was just a joke to you. It hurts, that’s all.”
Furuta remembers the moments spent rolling around under his Bureau Director desk, the kisses outside Helter Skelter, the wink she used to first catch his attention. “I don’t think I can love anyone other than Rize.”
“Wanna try?”She gives him a stern look. “If that was love, it was also corrupted hate.”
He’s silent.
“Your emotional provocations indicate I might not be just a replacement to you after all,” she tries again.
“I can’t love,” he blurts out. He shakes. “I can’t – dammit, dammit, fuck!”
“We’ll find a way. A way forward. Starting with the appointment you have to speak with Kaneki Ken tomorrow, in the 24th Ward.” She holds out her hand.
A small smile grows on Furuta’s face despite himself. And perhaps, a small hope grows inside him.
He reaches for her clumsily, and, like a child, holds her tight against his chest.
“By the way,” she whispers, wiping her eyes, “I am actually pregnant.”
