“Juuzou!” They use his familiar name as they dive in front of the kagune hurtling towards his head.
He spins around to see his S/O doubles over. A rinkaku impales their abdomen, but even through the pain, they look relieved.
“[NAME}!” Suzuya shrieks, lifting Jason. As his S/O holds onto the rinkaku, Suzuya leaps towards the ghoul, first slicing off their tentacle.
“We got this.” Keijin snaps his fingers. The rest of Suzuya Squad pile between Suzuya, his S/O, and the ghoul.
“[Name],” he whispers, scrambling to their side. Their face is pale, and their hair slick with sweat.
“I’m glad I got to you in time,” they say through ground teeth.
Suzuya knows they likely have major organ damage, but he’s not giving up. Not yet. “We need an ambulance!”
S/O was one of those rare people who could out-sugar Suzuya. Who loved the zoo and dancing for no reason. Who looked at him without disgust, without fear – with a look that made Suzuya want to be whomever they thought he was.
He can’t lose them.
“Please!” he begs into his phone.
Their hands crawls towards him, and he grips their fingers. Their precious fingers. “I love you.”
“It’s that bad, huh?” They try to laugh, only to grunt in pain. “It’s okay…I’ll be okay, Juuzou.”
The ambulance arrives soon after his squad has apprehended the ghoul, and Suzuya can only stare as his S/O is whisked away.
“Let’s go.” Hanbee taps Suzuya on his shoulder. “Miyuki’s driving us all to the hospital.”
“You’re not going through this alone,” Mizurou adds.

“I can’t believe I lost my spleen to a ghoul and it wasn’t even eaten,” complains his S/O a few days later. They’re jaundiced and thin, but alive. “That would be a much better story.”
Suzuya lies besides them in the hospital bed, because they insisted on his company.
“Open up.” Suzuya spoons ice cream into their mouth. Today’s the first day they’ve been allowed to eat, so he bought them the fanciest flavor he could find.
“I love you,” they say, mouth full.
“I love you too.” He strokes their hair, treasuring every second with them more than before. “I never want to lose you.”
