Since we know the afterlife exists in tokyo ghoul, what about Kiyoko dying and then reuniting with Kasuka in the afterlife? And then Kiyoko finally telling Kasuka that she loves her? I love everything you write about them its so cute!

Aww thank you!

Kiyoko’s been waiting for this her entire life, and after.

The moment she steps into the soft world of heaven, or whatever it is, and sees Kasuka’s face.

“Hey.” She waves nervously.

Kasuka is waiting by the gate, in the exact same pose she used to adopt when she waited for Kiyoko outside her apartment, so that they could walk to CCG together. “Been a while.”

“It has.” Kiyoko sighs. “A lot changed.”

“I know.” Kasuka smiles at Kiyoko’s restored legs, because there are no missing limbs in heaven. “I’m proud of you.”

Kiyoko smiles. Tears sting her eyes. She heard once that there were no tears in heaven, but she’s glad to know that’s not the truth; there’s tears of happiness and overwhelming emotion and even guilt here, tears of catharsis, and it’s perfect.

“Don’t you have something to tell me?” Kasuka tilts her head. “Kureo knows, too. It’s okay, up here.”

Kiyoko’s mouth dries. “You – saw -”

“We know, Kiyoko. Here, nothing is perfected, but our understanding is.” Kasuka reaches out her hand.

“I loved you all my life.” Kiyoko’s eyes widen. “I still do.”

Kasuka throws herself into her friend’s arms. “Kiyoko, it’s okay. It’s okay.”

They both cry, for what might have been on earth, for Kasuka’s early departure, for Kasuka, who doesn’t regret falling for Kureo at all, for Kiyoko, who lived alone for the rest of her life.

But it’s okay. It’s really okay. Because they have heaven now.

Kiyoko breaking a little whenever Akira calls her “Aunt Kiyoko”? Maybe with a little of Kiyoko trying to comfort Kureo in the wake of Kasuka’s death?

“Aunt Kiyoko!” Ten-year-old Mado Akira darts out her front door, and rushes up to throw her arms around CCG’s most advanced woman investigator.

Though someday, Kiyoko thinks, Akira may surpass her. Her eyes mist.

She misses Kasuka. Her best friend, and her beloved, even if Kasuka was in love with Kureo.

“How are you, Akira?” She asks with a bright smile.

“I passed my exam.” Akira nods.

“With the top score, I presume?” Kiyoko grins. Akira is modest, of course, but she’s the best in her class.

Akira nods, her face flushed.

“I hope your dad is treating you, then.” Kiyoko ruffles Akira’s hair.

“Ah, Kiyoko.” Kureo steps outside wit a sad smile. “Nice to see you again.”

She nods, holding up her mother’s famous soup. Well, Kiyoko is not a good cook, but she tried it for the Mados.

She used to come over all the time, back when Kasuka lived. Those nights were fun. Now, these nights are filled with tears.

But occasionally, she thinks as Akira hurries off, there’s still joy.

That’s how she knows they’ll be all right.

Headcanons for Kiyoko Aura being best friends with (and in unrequited love with) Kasuka Mado? Bonus if they’re sweet and angsty. Also, Kureo probably knows but since Kiyoko never says anything, he doesn’t call her on it, maybe??

I really like this headcanon. o.O

“Kiyoko, are you okay?” Kasuka watches her friend storm out of a meeting with her fists clenched.

“I’m fine,” she seethes.

“You’re not.” Kasuka pushes back a lock of blonde hair and motions Kiyoko into her office.

“Men are pigs,” Kiyoko bursts out as soon as their alone. “Kureo excepted, of course. But – I’ll say something I know for a fact, and they keep questioning me until I doubt everything all over again. But all the rookie men are believed immediately!”

Kasuka shakes her head, her hand on her growing stomach. “I know the feeling.”

Even as the most skilled investigator around, she’s often treated as fragile. It’s infuriating.

“I can’t take it anymore.” Kiyoko wipes her eyes. “I’m so angry. I will never earn their respect.”

“You shouldn’t have to, but please, I need you here,” Kasuka pleads. She leans close to Kiyoko to deliver a hug, and Kiyoko prays Kasuka doesn’t notice the fluttering in her heart.

She loves Kasuka. But Kasuka loves Kureo, and so Kiyoko will sit by silently.

“Don’t just sit by while they treat you like that,” Kasuka encourages.

Kiyoko swallows. Well, if she’s going to do it in her personal life, she might as well try something different in her professional life. “Okay.”

“Good.” Kasuka smiles. Someone knocks on their door.

“That’ll be Kureo. He has a unique knock.” Kasuka smiles as she opens the door. “Ready for the doctor?”

Kureo’s eyes wander to Kiyoko. She flushes, sure he knows exactly how she feels for Kasuka, and exactly the pain she’s in, watching Kasuka have his baby.

But he, too, is sitting by with silence. Perhaps because he trusts Kiyoko.

She wishes she trusted herself.
