Kaneki has always wanted a dog, but between his abusive mother, neglectful aunt and everything concerning his Ghoul life, that childhood desire never came true. He gets the surprise of his life when his family presents him with a new Akita puppy (maybe named Hachiko, after the infamous dog). (I blame the puppy videos on YouTube and the movie Hachi, for this one 😝)

“Touka, are you okay?” Kaneki enters their apartment to see her doubled over, pressed against the door to their bedroom.

“She’s fine,” Ayato calls. Hinami clutches his shoulder and giggles.

“All set!” Touka calls.

“Oof,” Kaneki hears Yomo grunt from behind the door. It opens and out spill the Quinx, Tsukiyama, Nishiki and Kimi, Akira and Amon, and…an Akita puppy.

Kaneki’s mouth falls open as the puppy quivers with excitement. It yips and scampers closer to him.

“We’ve named it Hachiko. You don’t get a choice,” Saiko calls.

Kaneki laughs. He stretched out his hand so the puppy can sniff him. “Better our dog than our kid.”

“Don’t worry. Mutsuki and I made a list of names,” Touka assures him.

Kaneki gulps.

The puppy tackles him.

“It’s so lovable!” Kaneki cries. “I – oh my gosh, Touka, I love it!”

“Take care of it well, Kaneki,” says Akira. She grins. “Maris Stella won’t like you anymore.”

“She better like Hachiko. He’s the best,” Touka declares.

Kaneki looks up at her with tears in his eyes. When he confessed his lifelong dream a week ago, in the middle of the night, he hadn’t expected anything other than a hug.

“Now that we can live freely, I figure we might as well make the most of it,” explains Touka.

Kaneki smiles. “I love you.”

Haise/Kaneki and Mutsuki coupling with Mutsuki being looked at by Sasaki (in manga canon when he made Mutsuki meat for dinner) ,instead of with curiousity, but with attraction in the same way Sasaki/Kaneki looked at Rize and Touka.

Mildly nsfw.

“Tooru,” Kaneki moans as he strokes Mutsuki’s bare chest.

“Kaneki,” Mutsuki murmurs as he lets Kaneki pull him atop him.

Kaneki smiles up at him. “I love it when you call me my real name.”

Mutsuki’s sure his heart has stopped. That look…the kind, amorous look he’s craved from Kaneki.

“Why are you crying?” Kaneki asks.

“Because you’re beautiful.” Mutsuki tries to wipe his cheek, but Kaneki wipes first.

“So are you, Tooru.”

Mutsuki doesn’t feel afraid of being intimate with Kaneki. He feels free. Like himself.

And Kaneki still sees his body, and calls him he, and loves him.

And calls him beautiful.

Mutsuki bends over to kiss Kaneki again.

Kaneki meets Oneshot!Kaneki and discover they have as much in common as they do in differences.

“What do you mean, you like eating people?” Kaneki stares horrified at his mirror image.

“I eat people only when I have to. But I do have to,” says Oneshot! Kaneki. “So do you.”

Kaneki growls. “I just eat ghouls.”

“That’s noble, but it won’t work for long, you know. Not without becoming a kakuja.” Oneshot! Kaneki licks his lips. “Should I be worried about you eating me?”

“No,” Kaneki says softly. “If I could live without eating, I wouldn’t eat at all.”

“So would all of us, don’t you think?” Oneshot!Kaneki tilts his head. “Heard you and Touka finally married.”

“Touka? You know Touka?” Kaneki brightens.

Oneshot! laughs. “I know a Touka. She’s a great partner. We defeated many investigators together. Though her temper and appetite are hard to control.”

“The temper’s easier now. She doesn’t have much an appetite that I know of.” Kaneki shrugs. “You love her, don’t you?”

Oneshot! grins. “Of course.”

“Guess that’s something we have in common.” Kaneki smiles dreamily at his counterpart, and both lose themselves to thoughts of their respect Toukas.

(Part of the dream verse) Kaneki saves his aunt from ghouls, and his family expresses their feelings towards the woman who treated him like scum for most of his life (include any one you want, though I would love if Mutsuki, Touka and Akira were among them. Enjoy yourself and express your own distaste for his aunt. Be evil if you must 😈)

“Do we have to rescue her?” grumbles Touka. “She doesn’t deserve her nephew or her grand-nephew-or-neice.”

“Touka, I can’t…I can’t be like her. I can’t abandon her. You know?” Kaneki swallows.

Touka sighs. “I know. I’m proud of you. I’m just…horrified you suffered like that.”

“All in place.” Mutsuki radios from where he and the Quinx have positioned themselves on his aunt’s roof.

“Thanks.” Kaneki clears his throat. “Akira, go for it.”

“Yes, your majesty.” Akira draws her quinque, and Amon uses his kakuja to bust down the door. “CCG!”

There’s a scream.

“Quinx, go!” Touka barks into their radio.

Urie and Hsaio use their koukakus to plunge through the roof. Aura flies forward on his ukaku to grab Kaneki’s aunt as the rest of the squad plunge Rc suppressants into the ravenous ghouls.

“No bloodshed, Maman.” Saiko clicks the radio.

When Kaneki approaches his blubbering aunt, he hears the familiar sound of her rage.

“Don’t touch me, you scum!”

“We just saved your life,” Higemaru says.

“I don’t like you,” adds Urie.

Mutsuki claps his hans to his cheeks. “Why were you so mean to your nephew?!”

“Nephew? Those – those beasts – they blamed him for this,” seethes his aunt. “Where is he?”

“He’s here,” Touka announces, slipping her hand in Kaneki’s. “Hi, I’m his wife.”

His aunt scowls at her belly. “I should have expected that of him.”

“Why are you so mean?” Mutsuki cries.

“Don’t you know all he needed was a mother? And you denied him that.” Akira’s eyes flash. Amon holds her back.

Kaneki swallows. “I don’t forgive you. Not yet.”

“I don’t want your forgiveness!” cries his aunt.

“I just don’t hate you enough to want you to die. I suppose we’ll both have to live with that.” Kaneki continues on, as if he hasn’t heard her.

“We’ll take care of the ghouls. Go reunite with the family you haven’t abused,” Mutsuki says coldly.

Kaneki feels a chill settle over him as Akira, Amon, the Quinx, and Touka surround him. “I have a family, Aunt. I’m sorry you can’t be part of it.”

Could you do a Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion)/Kaneki Ken scenario? They remind me so much of each other, I’d be interested to see how they’d interact.

I’ve never seen Evangelion, but wow, reading the description, they are hella alike

“Ahhhh!” The teenager doubles over, wincing as memory after memory engulfs him.

“What’s wrong?” Kaneki hurries across Anteiku to help their strange new visitor.

“N – nothing.” The kid snaps back to reality. He’s here. In a Tokyo he doesn’t recognize. Mom is gone.

“I’m Kaneki Ken. What’s your name?” The eyepatched man holds out a hand, smiling nervously.

“I’m Shinji Ikari.”

“Well then, Shinji, can I buy you a cup of coffee?”

Five minutes later, Shinji and Kaneki are sitting across from each other, both clutching coffee. Shinji’s is full of milk and sugar that turns Kaneki’s stomach.

“I sometimes have nightmares,” Shinji says slowly. “When I’m awake. I’m sorry…to scare you.”

“No, it’s really okay. Do you need to talk about it?” Kaneki asks.

“I remember my mom dying wen I was young. That’s all. It’s okay.” Shinji squirms.

Kaneki’s smile fades. “Oh. I see.”

There’s an awkward pause.

You’re the adult. Speak, dammit. Kaneki sighs. “My mom died young, too.”

“Do you miss her?” Shinji hesitates.

Kaneki nods.

“I’m here because I’m a coward. Because I’m running away from the people who love me.” Shinji stares at his hands. “Because I don’t ever want to experience the pain of losing Mom again.”

“Me either.” Kaneki swallows.

“Do you – do you think – that if we let ourselves risk love, we’d be happier?” Shinji’s eyes are bright with tears. “Because I’m not very happy, Mr. Kaneki.”

“Neither am I, Shinji,” Kaneki says. “But at least you’re not alone. At Anteiku, we help each other out.” He pauses. “Maybe not being alone is the key. In which case, you are doing just fine, Shinji Ikari.”

The teenager grins at him.

Hide is on new pain meds that make him, for lack of better terms, “high as a kite”, and Kaneki discovers he can see his past selves. Cue embarrassing puns (Haineki, get it ;)), lots of praise from one high blonde and even some crying from Hide as he reveals how much Kaneki, all parts of him really, mean to him.

Omg I love this.

“Kanekiiiiiiii…Shironeki, come here. You needs a hugs,” slurs Hide.

“Hide!” Kaneki colors as Hide embraces a pillow like a lover – but his friend only sees himself snuggling a white-haired boy sorely in need of love.

“Love me; I promise I love you,” Hide insists. The real Kaneki backs away.

Meanwhile, in Hide’s mind…

“That’s why I’m doing this,” says Shironeki. “Because I love you.”

“Nah. If you really knew I loved you, you wouldn’t.” Hide waves an arm about. “Hey, Kuroneki, get over here!”

“Hmm? Um, me?” Kuroneki hurries away from the corner he’s been hiding in.

“Your eyepatch is super-cool, bro.”

“I think it’s a ghastly sight,” says Haise.

“Don’t be so punny.” Hide hurls a tissue at Haise. “I challenge you and your pinstripes to a pun war!”

“Is the punishment for losing death?” asks Haise sweetly.

“No – it’s tickling!” Hide laughs hysterically.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, dude?” Reaperneki crosses his arms.

“What the fu…what is wrong with you? You’re a sourpuss.”

“Most like a sourpast, am I right?” Haise giggles.

“I love all your pasts, Kaneki,” Hide says dreamily. “All of them. You’re my best friend. I ain’t giving up on any of you – not even you, 240.”

“WAGH!”

“Hi, kids.” Hide waves at the two Childnekis. “I’m sorry, you know, that I couldn’t stop your aunt or save your mom. I hoped me being your friend was enough, but I don’t think it was. And it hurt, because I loved you then and do now. Whether eyeless or punny or emo or eyepatched.”

“What about me?” demands Reaperneki.

“You, too.” Hide stretches out his arms, and Reaperneki begrudgingly accepts.

Hide starts crying. “You guys do love me too, I know. I’ve always known. I always understood. I wish you did.”

Outside Hide’s mind…

“I wish you did,” Hide mumbles, drooling.

“I do. I promise I do now.” Kaneki wipes his own eyes as he lays Hide down on the couch he and Touka just bought.

Part 3 of the dreams) Hajime and the Squad zero kids have the same dreams as the others, only back to back. This prompts them to bond further with Kaneki, for Hajime to think things through and for Kaneki to gain four new members to his family.

“No, stop, Arima! Arima!” wails Shio.

“Shio, Shio, Shio!” Hirako shakes the child awake. “What happened?”

“Arima – was holding me down – and driving IXA through my eye.” Shio sobs.

“You’re okay. We’ve got you. And Arima loved you.” Yusa hugs his friend, and Rikai nods solemnly.

They drift back to sleep, but this time it’s Yusa sobbing awake. “Mom, stop – I won’t do it again, I promise!”

“Yusa?” Rikai tiptoes closer. “Yusa, you don’t know your mother.”

“Well, I did, and she was hitting me.” Yusa wipes his eyes.

Shio slips under the covers with him. “Here, let’s snuggle. Rikai, join us.”

“I’m fine.” Rikai smiles uncertainly before falling asleep.

“My TOES!” Rikai bolts upright with a shriek. “I was – in a chair – and Jason was chopping off my toes. They kept regrowing, and he kept cutting them off!”

Shio drags her into bed with he and Yusa. “I wonder why we’re all having nightmares.”

“Have you looked at our life?” Yusa asks.

They’re awakened not twenty minutes later by a scream from the cell a few blocks down.

“CENTIPEDES IN MY EARS!”

Hirako, Yusa, Shio, and Rikai bolt for Hajime’s cell. The child is flailing about, frothing at the mouth. He lets out bloodcurdling scream after bloodcurdling scream.

“Hajime!” Shio launches himself into the cell before Hirako can stop him.

“AHHHHHHHHH!”

“Wake up!” Rikai spits into Hajime’s face.

“Pah!” The brat awakens. Sweat beads adorn his forehead. “Huh?”

“Please tell me that’s not how you woke me up,” Yusa says. She smirks in response.

“Did you have the dreams? The torture dreams?” Shio asks.

“I was Kaneki Ken, and Jason putting – centipedes in my ears.” Hajime shakes. He fucking hates bugs.

“I was Kaneki in my nightmare, too,” says Yusa.

“Jason kept cutting off my toes,” says Rikai quietly. “Was the room in a mall, with a vaulted ceiling?”

Hajime nods.

“Did you smell flowers when you dreamt, Shio?” asks Yusa.

“Yeah.” Shio turns to Hirako. “What’s happening to us?”

“You’re having the Kaneki dream, monsieur!” Tsukiyama Shuu waltzes in before Hirako can answer. “We’ve all experienced it at one point or another.”

“Did those – did that really happen to him?” Shio touches his eye unconsciously.

“Indeed,” Tsukiyama says grimly.

Shio begins to cry. “Why? Why would Arima do that?”

“Why would anyone put bugs in someone’s ears?” howls Hajime.

“Where is Kaneki?” Yusa demands.

The king peers around the corner, flanked by Touka and Ayato and – Mutsuki?

“Thought you were at CCG!” Hajime shrieks.

“Thought you said you wouldn’t get caught,” Mutsuki cries back.

“Kingggggggggggg.” Shio flies into Kaneki’s arms, and Yusa and Rikai follow.

Kaneki gingerly pats their heads.

“Don’t be embarrassed. It wasn’t your fault,” says Yusa.

Mutsuki notices Hajime watching them enviously. He inches into the cell and loosens the chains just enough to pull Hajime into the love circle.

Hirako frowns, but accepts the kid.

“I’m sorry that happened. Why do you still like ghouls?” Hajime demands.

Kaneki touches Hajime’s chin. “That’s a long story.”

“I’ve got no where else to be, considering my captain is apparently here now.”

Suzuya squad is love suzuhan is life

image

Keijin Nakarai holds his head high as he escorts a bouquet-clasping Miyuki Mikage down the aisle. Mizurou Tamaki follows, throwing flowers every which way.

Hanbee’s face is already red by the time the music swells and the church doors sweep open.

Suzuya, dressed in a lace white suit and accompanied by a proud Shinohara, walks down the aisle humming in tune with the music. Hanbee can see tears in Shinohara’s eyes as Suzuya grasps Hanbee’s hands.

Kaneki clears his throat and prepares to read their vows.

Suzuya beams at Hanbee, and he’s positive he’s never been this happy before.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who would like this but: scenario where Touka decides to be with Kaneki and their baby as well as save Yoriko despite the danger this could pose to her and her loved ones after learning her and Yoriko being connected while Touka is a ghoul may have doomed her friend unlike in the manga where she chose the safety of her and Kaneki and a possible family over Yoriko. It’s somewhat understandable why she did (baby to think of) but I would like her to also chose Yoriko

“Let’s do this.” Ayato cracks his knuckles.

“I can’t believe you talked me into another prison raid,” mumbles Yomo.

“It’s quality Kirishima bonding time.” Touka clears her throat.

“Onee-chan, promise you’ll be careful if you think the baby’s in danger.” Hinami frowns.

“I promise.” Touka sighs.

“Great!” Kaneki smiles brightly, because inwardly he’s screaming and dying. “Let’s do this.”

He casually strolls up to the guards, Naki and Miza behind him. “Oh, hey there.”

“Sasaki!” They draw their guns.

“Really? He just came to talk. That’s terribly impolite.” Tsukiyama drops down from the roof . “You’re surrounded. I suggest that you’re going to be very compliant, aren’t you?”

As soon as the Rc scanners are deactivated, Touka, Hinami, Ayato, and Yomo rush into the prison.

“Cell 414…cell 414…” Touka rushes up the stairs. “Yoriko!”

“Touka-chan?” Her best friend’s face pales. “Touka, why are you here? They say you’re a ghoul!”

“I am.” Touka slumps over. “I’m sorry I never told you.”

Yoriko frowns. “Hina is too?”

“Yup.”

Ayato waves. “Hi, I’m Ayato.”

“You!” Yoriko leaps to her feet. “You hurt your sister when you ran away!”

She approaches the cell door. “Why didn’t you tell me? I – I wouldn’t have turned you in.”

“I wanted to protect you.”

“Stand back.” Yomo electrifies the cell door. It swings free, and he grabs Yoriko. “Time to go.”

“Wait! Takeomi – my husband – he’s in jail, too, for punching the officer who arrested me.” Yoriko clutches Touka. “We have to save him, too.”

Touka sighs. “Am I gonna approve your husband? Lead on. Your wedding was lovely, by the way.”

Yoriko’s eyes fill with tears. “What?”

“Kaneki and I watched from over the hills.” Touka smiles sadly. “We’re married, too.”

Yoriko gasps. “Touka!” She hugs her. “I predicted right.”

“You did,” Touka admits with a laugh.

“Oh hey, Eyebrow-chan.” Ayato waves through the cell bars to Takeomi Kuriowa. “Wanna come with us and your wife? We promise we won’t eat you.”

“Yoriko! What’s – what are you doing?” Takeomi nearly falls over.

“Trusting Touka-chan. I think we can.”

“Don’t pretend you like Furuta.” Touka rolls her eyes as Yomo electrifies his cell door.

“I don’t but – ghouls – I mean – Yoriko -”

“Better than execution, right?” HInami wraps her kagune around him. “Come with us.”

When they’re all back in the 24th ward, Kaneki, Touka, Takeomi, and Yoriko sit down for a long conversation.

Scenario where Kaneki does flee with everyone into hiding during the raid on Anteiku instead of staying to fight. They all end up returning safely after the dangers over to work at the cafe as a family again. One day Mutsuki happens to walk in and interacts with Kaneki (who he takes an immediate shine to) and the others and is ultimately offered a part time job at Anteiku as a waiter. Thoughts of Kaneki and the others makes him accept happily, feeling like he finally belongs.

Cute!

“Here you go, sir. Black coffee.” The cute black-haired waiter hands a mug to Mutsuki.

Mutsuki smiles. “T-thanks.” It’s warm and comforting, something he sorely needs after leaving CCG.

“Your hair is a cute color. Do you dye it?” A pretty teenager with light brown hair waves at him.

“No.” Mutsuki blushes.

“I like it.”

“This is backbreaking work, Kaneki.” A bespectacled man with chestnut hair stops mopping the floor to sag against the wall.

“Stop being a drama queen, Nishiki-shit-head.” The manager stomps in, but pauses as soon as she notices Mutsuki. “Oh. I apologize.”

“It’s okay.” Mutsuki has to laugh. They seem like a big, happy family.

“Touka-chan, this is how you can Nishiki will scare off all our customers,” laughs a graceful black-haired woman.

“Not my ferocity?” A man with a large nose bares his teeth.

Mutsuki’s eyes mist. Family. He wishes he had one. But it’s his own fault he doesn’t.

So he keeps returning to the cafe. Yomo, a large man with a gentle demeanor, and Kaneki, a sweet kid about his age, meet him every day to discuss news and books, respectively. Yomo seems particularly interested when he learns Mutsuki is a graduate of CCG’s academy.

“Why’d you leave?” asks Touka, sitting besides Mutsuki.

“Be – because they did something…” Mutuski mumbles. They helped him blame ghouls instead of himself. They presented his case to younger students even though they knew it was a lie. How could he trust anything he’d been taught? “Something awful. And I didn’t want to be a part of it. And I hate blood.”

“Me too,” admits Kaneki.

“Wuss.” Touka pokes Kaneki’s nose, but she’s smiling.

“What do you think of ghouls?” Koma’s eyes glimmer.

“I really don’t know.” Mutsuki shrugs. “I don’t…hate them. I just don’t know them.”

“I mean, you do, but that’s cool.” Nishiki waves his hand.

“NIshiki!” Touka yells.

Mutsuki’s mouth drops open. “You’re – a – uh -”

“We all are. Well, Ken’s a half-ghoul. The rest of us are full ghouls.” Hinami holds out her hand, and Loser flutters down onto her fingers. She looks sweet and kind.

“I won’t tell,” Mutsuki promises. He’s in no position to judge murder, anyhow. But maybe…they wouldn’t hate him if they knew. “You’re all like family to me.”

“Good.” Touka hands him a mop. “Wanna work here?”

“Does that mean I’m off cleaning duty?” shouts Nishiki.

Mutsuki laughs. Someday he’ll tell them. For right now, he’ll enjoy this strange, strange family.
