Setting: AU where Fruit-chan still helped Rize escape, but the steel beams were an attempt to stop V from finding her, and he missed and hit Rize instead. Rize recovered with Yomo after he freed her from Kanou, and Furuta re-met her through Mr. MM. They struck up a romance, but she does not know he’s responsible for that accident.

And now Tsuneyoshi caught Fruit, just prior to Rushima Island.

Tsuneyoshi grabs Furuta by his arm, twisting and twisting until Furuta feels as though his bones are about to snap. “I see. You’ve been helping yourself to my breeders.”

He smacks Furuta in his head as his son grinds his teeth to keep from crying out in pain. “You’re a half-breed. You defile them.”

“No,” Furuta whines.

“No?” Tsuneyoshi mocks, shoving Furuta against the wall and kneeing him between his thighs. “No? You’ve betrayed me.”

Furuta’s eyes harden, but he forces himself to chuckle. “You don’t know the half of it.”

“I could not bear the thought that she was raised to be raped by disgusting old men,” he seethes. “From the moment I found out she was raised for rape and me to die, I swore I would end it all. And I will, Father.”

“Is that a confession?” Tsuneyoshi asks.

“It’s enough for me.” A crimson rinkaku pierces Tsuneyoshi’s midsection.

Rize stands behind him, eyes blazing. “I’m not your object, Father. I chose Souta, no matter his species or relation.”

“How cute,” Tsuneyoshi gasps, spitting up blood and struggling in vain against his impalement. “Did he tell you how he dropped the beams on you?”

“It was an accident!” cries Furuta.

Rize merely laughs. “You’re a dumbass, old man. You think I’d fall for that? I know, because I’m smart. I’m capable. And I’m not your object.”

Furuta gapes at her. She smiles slyly and readies another kagune tentacle.

“Allow me.” Furuta struggles to his feet.

“No,” says a calm voice behind Rize.

To Furuta’s amazement, Arima Kishou sends his father’s head flying. Behind him stand Eto Yoshimura, Hirako Take, Kaneki Ken, and … Fueguchi? The Raven? Two Rabbits?

“We broke out of Cochlea,” explains Kaneki.

“We know a bit about forbidden love, too,” Eto adds, grabbing Arima’s hand.

“Oh god no,” Furuta says, as appalled as everyone else in the room.

“Souta.” Rize rushes over to him. “I know, okay? I know you dropped the beams.”

“Now I do, too,” adds Kaneki dryly.

“There’s a part of me,” Furuta whispers, grasping at Rize’s hair like she’ll disappear, “that thinks I hit you on purpose. Because I was jealous you’d forgotten me.”

Rize shakes her head. “I never forgot you. Never. I just stayed away to keep you safe, see if you couldn’t get back in that old fart’s good graces. How could I forget you? I love you. And I know you better than that.”

“Me?” Furuta realizes there are tears on his cheeks. “Rize.”

Rize’s breath tickles his ear. “If you marry me, you can take my last name.”

“Now kiss,” Eto orders.

“Not if you want it, hag!” Furuta shouts.

“That hag is your sister in law!” Eto yells back, kissing Arima.

Furuta’s scream is silenced by Rize’s soft lips on his.

What kinda frustrates me is how Furuta had Rize in the end, but instead of living the life that he wanted with her, he basically made her a pawn in his plan. I mean, I sort of get why he did it, but part of me wishes that he actually chose that. Can you make him run away with Rize after freeing her himself?

I hate that his nihilism won out in the end, for both of their lives. 😦

– Riddled with guilt over her miserable existence, Furuta asks Uta to seize Rize from Yomo for him. He then flees with Rize into the countryside and attempts to nurse her back to health.

– After years of captivity and starvation, she takes time to recover. He views his actions as penance.

– When she finally remembers that he started this by, you know, dropping steel beams on her, she is (rightly) furious. She thinks of this as the worst betrayal, and tells him that just because he didn’t rape her like his father would have, doesn’t mean he’s a good person.

– Furuta knows she’s right, but also tells her that his jealousy was not his primary motivation. V was after her, and he thought death might be better than having V catch her again.

– Rize is appalled at his idea of ‘mercy’ and the choice that wasn’t his to make. She accuses him of making excuses, which…he isn’t exactly, because he’s telling the truth, but she’s not wrong when she tells him she hates him.

– Furuta, ashamed and quite cognizant of the depth of his sins, asks what she wants him to do. She tells him to die, and leaves.

– Furuta stays away, because she clearly hates him, and he can’t say he doesn’t deserve it. But soon enough V catches onto her.

– He sacrifices his pride to ask Kaneki for help, and nearly dies trying to save her, due to his advanced aging.

– FYI, The revelation to CCG about the Washuus, instead of Dragon, is the situation that causes ghouls and humans to unite.

– Furuta thinks he was saved by Kaneki’s kagune during the battle, but he’s wrong. It was Rize’s. He doesn’t learn that for a long time, though.

– In the aftermath, as Furuta works to establish peace with TSC, Rize (who works with Kimi on food development) approaches him and asks if they can talk. They rekindle their friendship first.

– Eventually, Rize and Furuta acknowledge – with a push from Touka – that they might have a path forward.

– Rize, never one to wait, promptly asks Furuta to elope.

– At the end, Rize is pregnant with their first child at the same time Touka is pregnant with her second.

How do the canon/basically canon ships partners react to getting told by their significant other to kiss them? (add fururize in there too bc I’m still said over my fruit boy)

Touken – Touka melts inside and takes her time; Kaneki frantically acquiesces.

Akiramon – Amon sweeps Akira in his arms and gives her a long, lingering kiss; Akira tackles him first.

Ayahina – Ayato asks if she’s sure and blushes; Hinami gives Ayato the longest, sweetest look of his life before rewarding him.

Utaren – Uta gives Yomo a teasing peck; Yomo basically gives Uta full mouth-to-mouth.

Mutsurie – Mutsuki is excited but nervous; Urie involuntarily shivers with amazement.

Nakimiza – Naki adds lots of sound effects and laughter; Miza kisses him with full seduction-mode.

Takeomi/Yoriko – Takeomi bows and states how honored he is; Yoriko still turns bright pink.

Tsukikana – Tsukiyama pulls out the rose he’s been keeping in his pocket and says “but of course, ma chere!”; Karren leaps atop him.

Uihai – Ui gasps and momentarily freezes; Hairu takes a bite of melon bun to tease him first.

Fururize – Furuta squeals and dies of happiness; Rize bites his lips like they’re food.

Takirona – Seidou catches his breath in wonder; Kurona responds with “I was wondering when you’d ask.”

Some hcs for how Yoriko/Takeomi, nakimiza, fururize, and maybe tsukikana are with their baby who won’t stop crying at 2am?

Yoriko/Takeomi (they don’t get enough love!)

– Takeomi is rocking their child and offering silent prayers.

– Yoriko is in the kitchen brewing coffee/texting Touka for more advice. It’s gonna be a long night.

– Takeomi confesses this is harder than fighting ghouls, and they should be promoted to special class for this.

Nakimiza

– Naki is terrified, but covers the kid in kisses.

– Miza checks all the books to see if the baby is teething or has something medically wrong.

– When she’s satisfied the kid is healthy, they take turns cuddling the baby until it sleeps.

Fururize

– Furuta is crying as hard as his kid. “Please, I’m begging you, tiny demon, go the hell to sleep.”

– He’s trying to quiet the baby so Rize can get some sleep, and failing miserably.

– Finally, Rize awakens. She marches straight in, declares the kid hungry, and sure enough, after bottle-feeding, their kid is calm again.

Tsukikana

– Like Furuta, Tsukiyama is also sobbing, but that’s because he doesn’t know what is wrong with his baby and wishes he could help.

– Karren decides to sing a German lullaby. She and Shuu take turns serenading their child in different languages.

– As soon as the baby sleeps, Shuu asks her if she wants to make another.

You’re killing me, but it’s cool because I want to be killed by Fruit Fluff.

– Furuta is very protective of his kids, especially Yuuko. Rize chides him for this instinct of his.

– Yuuko, however, is as rambunctious and mischievous as her dad. The amount of times Fruit has woken up to his face colored with makeup is too many to count.

– Rize, the traitor, sits and watches Yuuko draw art on Daddy. She even assists.

– Ryuu is a soft kid, the ‘Kaneki’ type, as both Rize and Furuta have noted.

– Ryuu is very much a Mommy’s boy, and practically worships Rize. Furuta encourages this.

– As a result, Ryuu was quite fearful when his kagune manifested, and Fururize didn’t exactly know how to handle him. Fortunately, Uncle Kaneki swooped in and gave them advice.

– Every night, Furuta kisses his kids atop their foreheads, and reflects how lucky he is to have Rize, Ryuu, and Yuuko.

– Every night, Rize nibbles Furuta’s shoulder as a way to say how much she loves him.

Fururize birthday celebration with their kids. break my heart.

Oh, you’ve hit me in the feels after this chapter.

– “Daddy!” Their small daughter, with her hair just like Auntie Hairu’s, probably awakens Fruit and Rize at 4 am.

– This prompts Fururize bickering over which parent she gets her rambunctiousness from.

– Furuta baked the cake. Rize did not trust herself to not eat the Rc-cake as quickly as she made it.

– The child, as overly emotional as her parents, shrieks with happiness when she sees her present (a toy sword). This prompts tears in Furuta’s eyes because their daughter has the childhood he wanted, and he’s touched that he’s able to provide it.

– Rize watches Furuta and their daughter mock-fight for a while before using her kagune to defeat them both. This prompts a tickle war, which is only interrupted with their infant boy awakening.

– Rize feeds him to calm him down, and Furuta probably can’t resist a quip about how their son gets his hunger from Rize.

– As they bicker again, their daughter, as mischievous as Fruit and hungry as Rize, enters the kitchen and eats 100% of her cake.

– They spend the afternoon caring for her stomachache and laughing.

– Touka has bought him a first edition of his Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis.

– Kaneki tacles Touka and takes her back for an early night. 😉

Ayahina

– Ayato forgot it was Valentine’s Day. After cursing himself out, he races to buy her a card before she wakes up.

– She knew he forgot, but it’s okay. She has her own surprise for him.

– Ayato returns, having hastily scribbled his devout love in her card.

– Hinami has bought Ayato a parakeet. Ayato practically cries in happiness.

Akiramon

– Amon is as smooth as Touka’s coffee. Flowers, chocolate, Maris Stella to pat as soon as Akira awakens.

– Akira is ready to counter him with ghoul-suited food for him, sweetened with as much sugar as a ghoul can tolerate.*

– Takes Akira out to a spicy curry shop for dinner.

*Given that Kaneki originally ate sugar cubes with blood, I’m guessing ghouls can tolerate some sugar, and Akira is ON it.

Seiaki

– Takizawa is terrified that he hasn’t bought her enough chocolate.

– His heart-shaped box is half the size of Akira.

– Akira laughs and tells him thank you, before revealing they have plans to spend the day in a dog and cat cafe.

Takirona

– Takizawa is a bit shy, but he’s bought Kurona flowers and Touka’s magnificent coffee.

– She kisses him and tells him he’s more than enough to make her happy.

– They spend their night in, watching Netflix and cuddling and talking about feelings.

Mutsurie

– Urie sweeps Mutsuki off his feet immediately.

– He’s pleased when Mutsuki promptly knocks his feet out from under him.

– They’re discovered making out in the halls outside their room.

Shiraiko

– Shirazu is stunned to wake up to Saiko serving him breakfast in bed.

– When he asks her how she woke up in time, she cheerfully says she didn’t go to sleep, because he is that important to her.

– She of course then snuggles with him, cuddling and eating the feast she’s prepared (with Kaneki’s cooking help).

Hsaiko

– Hsaio cosplays as Saiko’s favorite manga character to wake her up.

– Saiko insists that both can be late for work. … Not for sleep. 😉

– Saiko runs around bragging about her sexy girlfriend, and consults Hairu for how marriage is best sprung to a garden ghoul.

Suzuhan

– Hanbee takes Suzuya out for ice cream.

– Suzuya takes Hanbee to the latest Disney movie. He likes it, too. By the end, Hanbee is sobbing into Suzuya’s arms.

– At home, Hanbee discovers flowers decorating his room.

Fururize

– Furuta is awakened by Rize love-biting him

– He will take her to an all-you-can-eat restaurant suitable for ghouls, and think himself the luckiest man alive every time she steals a glance.

– Rize: “Are you feeding me so I have the energy to dominate you tonight?”

– Furuta: *mews*

Nishikimi

– Nishiki: “Since you were okay with putting a bangle around my wrist, what if I put a ring around your finger?”

– Kimi: *eyes wide* “Nishiki-kun!”

– Nishiki: “I mean, I don’t have it yet. But I figured I’d ask. For future reference.”

– Kimi: “Now I’m half tempted to make you put it around my middle finger.”

Tsukikana

– Tsukiyama awakens Karren by sprinkling diamonds and gold dust on her.

– Karren has collaborated with Chie to get the best, most exotic food for Shuu..

– They dance the night away, until Karren suggests another form of dance. 😉

Higetori

– Higemaru’s a bit concerned Hakatori will find it dumb, but he would totally propose on Valentine’s Day.

– She says yes, then chastises him for giving her a present she can’t top.

– Her present, however, involves a concert and “Higemaru appreciation day,” in which she’s convinced all the Aogiri kids to make him cards.

Uihai

– Can you say PREPARED. Ui’s been planning their dinner at the best restaurant in town for months. He buys Hairu a gargantuan chocolate heart, which she promptly breaks in two for him.

– Hairu gives him tickets for a play Ui’s been dying to see, for the next weekend.

– Hairu suggests snuggles after they walk home.

Nakimiza

– Once Naki heard about this tradition of celebrating love, he ran around consulting ways to celebrate Miza.

– He throws confetti (supplied by Tsukiyama) on her, and she kisses him.

– “You know, you could have just wished me a happy Valentine’s Day and that would be enough,” says she. He then cries about how it wouldn’t be enough for Miza.

Arieto

– Let’s see, how can Eto troll the Reaper?

– bribes access to CCG for herself, then appears in Arima’s office yelling “boo!”

– Arima’s office door closes for the next few hours.

Utaren

– Uta is determined to embarrass Yomo.

– He buys him a ridiculously sized box of chocolates neither can eat, and a new coat

– To his surprise, Yomo has also bought him paint for masks. But Uta’s real treat is how flustered and flushed Yomo is.
