Hmmmm Mucchan’s gender is quite the touchy subject, isn’t it? 😦
I personally think of Mucchy as trans, though I’ve read and understand the arguments that he isn’t. The manga, IMO, seems to give reason to believe both, but never confirms. The fact that it hasn’t confirmed even after Mutsuki’s character arc – and that Mutsuki only seems to use female pronouns when dissociating – makes me think he actually is trans and editors are afraid of controversy. Also, I want a cool trans character. 🙂
Anyhow, just threw that out so you know where I’m coming from.
So. If you admire this youtuber, I think it’s definitely reasonable to message them, or leave a (polite, because this is the internet and people can be assholes) comment, simply inquiring why they use feminine pronouns. It’s a reasonable question. And it seems from your message that you do want to do something about it. 🙂
You will probably get two main answers:
1. They truly believe the arguments that he isn’t a trans person. You could suggest that, Mutsuki does currently insist on having male pronouns, and it seems like a decent habit to refer to people as their preferred gender. Sure, TG is fiction, but I think there’s something to be said about empathizing and humanizing characters, too. 🙂 And what’s the harm? But if the youtuber still wants to use “she/her,” well, at least you know they’re not doing it out of bigotry.
2. If, however, they use the wrong pronouns because they don’t believe trans people are legitimate, like Mucchy was born female and that’s that to them…Well. That’s a different story. That’s a hard conversation to have. If they’re just misinformed, facts on the few scientific studies done might help. Or stories to help them empathize with trans people. If, however, they have to believe it because of religion or that they don’t want to be wrong… That’s your call. You probably can’t change them. IMO (coming from a fundamentalist childhood) it’s best if a friendship and relationship slowly help change beliefs like that, but it’s not your job or duty to be that friend.
I hope this helps. ❤ You seem like a sweet, empathetic person.
Have a lovely day.
