Why do you hurt me so much, Nonny-Mouse?
“Renji, run.” He feels her fingers tracing his cheeks before she falls backwards, off the top of the skyscraper they’re standing on.
Somehow, she remains alive, sprawled across the pavement, legs at unnatural angles so that she cannot flee. Her voice projects into his head. Touka and Ayato are counting on you.
Arima Kishou strides over, IXA glistening in his hands. Yomo scales down the skyscraper, closer and closer. He’ll be in time to save her. He has to.
She smiles up at Arima. “I feel sorry for you, Reaper.”
Is that a flicker of humanity in Arima’s eyes? How can he see Arima’s eyes from a skyscraper?
She sucks in a deep breath, her last breath. She savors the Tokyo air she’ll never feel again.
And IXA pierces her heart. She exhales for a final time.
With a scream, Yomo bolts upright in bed.
He’s here. Alive.
And she hasn’t been for three weeks.
And it was a small house, not a skyscraper. But somehow, every time he dreams it, he’s farther and farther away from her.
Covered by a blanket of darkness, Yomo bows his head to weep.
