This is a cool idea!
Golden sunlight filters in through the skylight to their bedroom. Suzuya Juuzou traces the scars on Yasuhisa Kurona’s abdomen as he waits for her to awaken. He hates that he hurt her before, because now all she brings is happiness.
Kurona cracks open an eye. “Hi there, Juuzou.” She sits up to kiss him good morning.
At the new Commission for Human-Ghoul Alliance (CHGA), Kurona and Suzuya are both alerted to a hostage situation. Some bigot has taken ghoul children captive. Well, not on their watch.
“Hi there! Don’t worry, I’m human.” Suzuya distracts the older man with talk of puddings and chocolate, while Kurona sneaks onto the roof. In a flash, she uses her kagune to smash her way through and bind the man, while Suzuya Squad swoop in to save the crying children.
“We were them once,” Kurona remarks later.
Suzuya nods. He always finds children the hardest. Every time, he relives what Mr. Shinohara must have thought seeing him.
“They’ll be okay.” Kurona turns her eyes to him. “If we’re okay and in love, they can make it past their trauma. I believe in them.”
“I believe in you,” he tells her with a giggle, and she shoves him playfully.
They eat dinner together, though Suzuya mostly snacks on sweets and Kurona devours her corpse flesh. Then they kiss, and Suzuya begs her for a special night.
They both have scars, but they only love each other more for it. As they tumble back into bed, Suzuya whispers how much he loves her.
“I love you, too,” Kurona says with dreamy eyes. Through the skylight, a star falls. “You know what? Sometimes I think Shiro’s looking down at us, smiling.”
